Thirty years ago, in a Kolkata lane, a neighbour's daughter was getting married and someone was needed for the mehendi. Anita Tibrewal went with a cone. She came home with a craft.
There was never a signboard. The bride told a cousin, the cousin told a friend, and the friend had a wedding coming. That is the whole marketing history of this practice. Work that speaks, passed hand to hand for three decades.
A sitting with her is unhurried. She asks about the outfit, the family, the morning itself, and then she composes, on your skin, a design that has never existed before and will never be drawn again. The women she drew for as brides now bring their daughters to the same chair.
For all those years the practice had no website, no page, no name beyond her own. AL-Henna is her family putting her name on the door she never asked for. Nothing about the work has changed. Now it simply has an address.

For thirty years the bridal work has been Anita's own hands, one bride a day, composed once. Around her she has built a team of over a hundred women artists she has trained and mentored, so a single wedding or a five-hundred-guest event is drawn beautifully, on time, together.
It is work that puts income and craft into the hands of women, the quiet second thing every booking does.
